"You might remember Modoshi, the social site for bargain hunters that launched early this year. I wrote about them back in January and my overall impression was that the team has found that key ingredient of a successful social deal site. I have recently received an email from one of my readers complaining that Modoshi team has essentially abandoned its members."

"Joe from Fantastic Blognanza wrote two nice posts of research he did for a paper on Threadless. While the results are not exactly what you’d call conclusive, they are interesting starting points for discussion.
Part 1: Can we predict from n.comments how well a design will score
Part 2: Who wins most, professional or amateur designers
If anyone has similar research I’d love to read it."

"Deal site Trezr is yet another eBay exit for a website. The site is like Digg for frugal shoppers looking for deals, coupons, and tips on how to save money. Users submit tips to the site, which other users can vote up in importance."

"Q: Do you see crowdsourcing drastically changing society?
A: No, I see peer production changing things drastically in society — which is to say, all forms of production, whether the participants are paid or not. ... Crowdsourcing is a way of doing it. There are several other ways to do it. For example, Wikipedia is not crowdsourced because no one gets paid to work on Wikipedia. "

"The Assignment Zero team has conducted 80 interviews on the subject of crowdsourcing.
The reporting found in this blog can be mixed and mashed to write your own story on crowdsourcing. Perhaps you want to write about a specific topic -- there are plenty of interviews that cover microstock photography, open source movies, unconferences, etc. Or for a real challenge, try to write a big feature that encompasses all the different aspects of crowdsourcing. "Many of you have noticed that we’ve put increased emphasis on ratings in the new search interface. Why? Well, we want the community to help us find and filter the best products from the zazzillions of products in the marketplace. Rating is just one extra piece of data that is used by the What’s Hot algorithm to determine what products to feature. It also means that we’re getting lots of accurate ratings from as many people as possible. Think of it as crowd-sourced merchandising!"
